Cricket introduced one day internationals format in 1971 and brought its first mega event in 1975. Even though today cricket contains T20 format world cup as well but fans consider ODI world cup mega event. Every time the big event is decorated with lot of hype and celebrations. Every team enters with a theme. Everyone wants to perform on big stage and collect reward in end.

In 10 mega events 19 total teams appeared in world cups so far. 2007 ODI world cup featured more teams, 16. Totally 356 matches have been played in world cups and 2003 event hosted the most matches individually, 54.
Who won the world cups
“Hey! Who won the most world cups”, this is most asked question for any game. Well! That’s easy one when we come to cricket. Everybody knows Australia is answer since they have done it 4 times, first in 1987 and then consecutively in 1999, 2003, 2007. India celebrated world cup victory twice in 1983 and 2011. West Indies was most favorite in early world cups and they were champions initially. They won 1975 and 1979 mega events. Pakistan team was star in 1992 world cup and Sri Lanka kissed the world cup in 1996.

Top 10 scorer in World Cups
Sachin Tendulkar career is spread over 6 world cups tournaments. Little master scored 2275 runs and Ponting is at second number with 1743 runs. Rest of the players in list has not much difference to the closer player as you can see in following chart
Top 10 Sixers in ICC WCs
Before you scroll down, wait a sec. If you are thinking about Shahid Afridi leading this category then let me clear that he had hit only 6 sixes in his 18 innings so far. Australian ex-captain, Ricky Ponting is on top of this list with 31 sixes followed by HH Gibbs who sent the ball over the rope 28 times. This list features many best batsmen including Sir IVA Richards.
Top 10 Wicket Takers in World Cups
Mcgrath and Murlithran lead this list with 71 and 68 wickets respectively. Wasim Akram is at third number with significant difference. Two Indian bowlers, J Sarinath and Z Khan, made to this list and both have taken equal wickets.

Top Scorer in each World Cups
In 2011, Tilkratne Dilshan scored 500 runs and was leading scorer in world cup. Sachin Tendulkar granted his fans so many times in world cup. The most respectable cricketer was top scorer in two world cup tournaments in 1996 and 2003; no one else has done it twice. Also “Sir” SR Tendulkar scored, 673, more than any player in individual tournament. Only other player who scored 600+ in a tournament was Australian Mathew Hayden, he scored 659 in 2007 WC.
Top Wicket Takers in each World Cups
Australian Glenn McGrath collected 26 wickets in 2007 WC and became top wickets taker in all WCs. In 1999 WC both Shane Warne and Geoff Allott took 20 wickets and shared award for most wicket taking bowlers in a WC. In 2011 WC this award was shared by Ind-Pak bowlers Z Khan and Shahid Afridi. Most Matches in WCs
I am sure many others like me would be surprised to see that Ricky Ponting has played more matches than Mr. Sachin Tendulkar in mega events. Even its one match difference between these two legends on such big stage but still it counts. Ponting was seen in 46 games and Tendulkar played in 45 matches.
