MS Dhoni should quit test captaincy
Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has recommended that India’s skipper MS Dhoni should consider on his leadership skills before the Australia tour starting from December. India’s Test record in overseas soil over the last three years had been hilarious. Steve Waugh felt that Dhoni is the right option to lead India in shorter formats but a distant away when it comes to longer formats. Let’s see why MS Dhoni should quit test captaincy.
In a mega event “Salaam Cricket”, Waugh said that there is immense pressure on Dhoni as he is leading the side in all the formats. Moreover he is playing a lot of cricket comprising leagues and others every now and then. He has to perform in big matches not only as a batsman but also as a captain and keeper.
In Test matches he seems to be a little bit fatigued with constantly playing cricket and so there has been a question mark over his captaincy in longer formats, he added. Its time to hand over the leadership to someone like Virat Kohli keeping the fact in mind that Dhoni is a fantastic player.
Waugh knew that Dhoni will probably stay as captain for the Australia tour this summer still he believes that switching captain would not have been a bad idea.
Out of Dhoni’s 14 losses as captain away from home, 7 have been innings defeat while two have been by greater than 250 runs and two by 10 wickets.
Waugh said that blaming only Dhoni for overseas losses would be unfair and uttered that senior cricketers should have also had their contributing hand.
