Rogers became the first openly gay man American Player

The 26-year-old returned to the game on Sunday as LA Galaxy beat Seattle Sounders 4-0 after coming out and announcing his retirement back in February

Robbie Rogers became the first openly gay man to be an active player on an American sports team when he came on as a substitute for the LA Galaxy in a 4-0 win over the Seattle Sounders.

In February, the 26-year-old announced his retirement from the game after announcing his sexuality in a blog post, but returned to play the final 15 minutes at the Home Depot Center.

However, he began training with the Galaxy a month ago and the club acquired the rights to the former Leeds man from the Chicago Fire earlier in the week via a trade for Mike Magee.

The Californians opened the scoring against the Washington outfit early on, with Sean Franklin tapping home after just 12 minutes.

Soon afterwards, Robbie Keane doubled their lead, before the Republic of Ireland legend completed his hat-trick with a pair of penalties. (Source)

A huge sports buff. I always had a keen interest in the world of media, which eventually led me to join the advertising industry. However, i still wanted something else, something more. i wanted to fuse my love for sports, experience in media and desire for independent work environment.
