Shahid Afridi Dropped From Champion Trophy.
Shahid Afridi Dropped From Champion Trophy. Shahid Afridi has been left out of Pakistan’s squad for the Champions Trophy after allrounder’s poor one-day international form during the past year.
The inclusion of all-rounder Shahid Afridi will be the main debate as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee and team management meet in Lahore today to finalise the 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
Initial discussions held last week between the selection committee and team management saw most of the stake holders against the inclusion of the star all-rounder, said an official close to the team management.
Afridi has scored only 161 runs at an average of 17.88 and taken just four wickets at an astonishing cost of 113.75 runs each in the last 12 ODIs, leading selectors to exclude him from the eight-team competition in England in June. Afridi was axed from the One-Day International (ODI) squad for the India tour last December before regaining his place in the format for the series against South Africa. Fast bowler Asad Ali is the only uncapped player in the 15-man squad. The selectors also left out middle-order batsman Umar Akmal, who didn’t figure in the last ODI series against South Africa despite being selected in the 15-man squad.
Pakistan is in Group B of the Champions Trophy alongside West Indies, South Africa and fierce rival India.
