They have made rapid improvement in recent seasons and last year they had an impressive World League campaign, culminating in a fourthplace finish in Group 1 following a straight-sets defeat against their Italian hosts in the bronze medal match.
Runners-up last time out – beating eventual bronze medallists Serbia in the last four before losing to Brazil in the final – it will be a very different Cuba side which will line up for a 14th World Championship appearance in Poland. With many of their stars from the 2010 campaign absent, a new crop of Cuba players will represent their country on the back of an impressive win in the World League Group 3 final in June and a Pan American Cup title in August.

They will face strong challenges in Pool B where they are up against Brazil, Iran and world champions Poland. It was the Iranian team that topped Group 1 Pool I in last year’s World League as defending champions Russia missed out on the semifinals by a point, but the Russians defeated the Asian side to take fifth place at the 2014 World Championship.

One of 10 teams to compete in the inaugural tournament in Czechoslovakia in 1949, the French have finished in the top three on just one occasion so far – in Argentina 2002 when they took third place after failing to qualify for the 1994 and 1998 events.

As one of the most consistent competitors in the World League, the Brazil team will be aiming to go one better than they did in the last two editions, when they finished second to USA and Russia respectively. They are assured a place in this year’s final round in Rio de Janeiro as hosts. Brazil went close to winning last year’s World Championship in Poland, losing in the final to an impressive host nation and they were runners-up to Russia at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

3rd on Top 10 Best Volleyball Teams 2016, The United States are entering a third season under head coach John Speraw and are out to defend the World League title they won by defeating arch-rivals Brazil in last year’s Florence final, the second time they have topped the podium at the tournament.
2nd on Top 10 Best Volleyball Teams 2016 is Italy . The Azzurri have eight titles, one fewer than Brazil, and they will be looking to repeat their 1995 heroics when they beat the South Americans in the final in front of 25,000 passionate fans in Rio de Janeiro. At the 2014 World Championship, Italy finished joint-13th after coming seventh in their second round pool, despite earning podium finishes throughout 2013.

1st on Top 10 Best Volleyball Teams 2016 is Australia. In last year’s World League they were bottom of Group 2’s Pool C but defeated France in five sets in the Group 2 final in Sydney. That secured them a spot in the Group 1 Finals but they were defeated by United States and Italy. This time they face a sterner test, coming up against Brazil, Italy and Serbia in Group 1. They represented Asia at the 2014 World Championship, finishing joint-15th after reaching the second round in Poland.
