Accuracy competitions have always been the rage throughout history be it with bows, spears, knives and axes. Though most of these sports have survived the test of time, with the emergence of guns a new sport entered the foray and this was shooting games and they are quite popular in all the major sporting events like Olympics or Commonwealth games. Here we countdown the Top 10 Shooters 2016. Note that the list contains only the top rifle shooters.

10. Peter Sidi

At number 10 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Peter Sidi. Peter is a Hungarian sport shooter who has been a former world champion in 50m rifle 3 positions when he world the gold medal at world championships in Munich. Apart from that he has also won silver in 300m rifle prone, 10m air rifle and bronze in 50m rifle 3 positions and 50m rifle prone team at various World Championships. Though he has competed in four Olympics, he is yet to win a medal and his best finish was at 6th in 10m air rifle and 50m rifle 3 positions.

9. Daniel Brodmeier

At number 9 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Daniel Brodmeier from Germany. This german marksman is ranked 7th in the world in men’s 50m rifle prone. He had a successful junior career having won silver and bronze in two events at World Cup 2006 and silver at European Junior Championships. Since then as an adult he has won silver in rifle prone in World Championships 2014 and a total of 6 medals at World Cups (1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze).

8. Gagan Narang

At number 8 is Gagan Narang from India. Gangan is an accomplished Indian Shooter who recently won Bronze in 10m air rifle during 2012 Summer Olympics. He has an impressive tally of medals that include 8 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in Commonwealth games from solo and team events, 2 silver and 3 bronze in solo and teams in Asian games. Apart from that he won gold thrice in ISSF World Cup in 2009, 2008 and 2006.

7. Cao Yifei

At number 7 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Cao Yifei from China. Cao is a professional Chinese shooter who participated as team China in 2008 Summer Olympics. He is currently ranked 2nd in the world in 10m Air Rifle. His major performances include the gold at 2005 National Championships in 50m small-bore rifle prone and 2007 World Championships Youth Group 50m small bore rifle 3*40. He also won silver in 10m air rifle team and 50 rifle prone at 2011 Universiade.

6. Cyril Graff

At number 6 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Cyril Graff from France.  Cyril is currently ranked 6th in the world in 50m rifle prone men. He just missed a medal at 2012 Olympics when he finished 4th in 50m rifle three position. He shot to national prominence when he won gold at 2013 European Shooting Championship in 300m rifle three position and also gold in teams’ events like 50m rifle prone team, 50m rifle three position team, 300m rifle prone team and 300m rifle three postion team.

5. Alexander Schmirl

At number 5 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Alexander Schmirl from Austria. Schmirl is an Austrian Army Elite athlete and a member of the national team of Austria Shooting Federation and is currently ranked 6th in the world in 50m rifle three positions. He broke to international prominence having won 1st place in total of five events both single and team during the 2011 Austrian National Championship and later winning 1st in Rimfire Lying and 3rd in Rimfire 3*40 during 2014 World Championship at Granada.

4. Warren Potent

At number 4 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Warren Potent from Australia. He is a pro sport shooter currently ranked 3rd in the world in men’s 50m Rifle Prone. Warren has won a bronze in 50m Rifle Prone in 2008 Beijing Olympics, gold in pre-Olympics in Beijing, 2 Bronze in the ISSF World Cup 2008. He was also crowned champion in 2014 ISSF World Championship in 50m Rifle Prone.

3. Mathew Emmons

At number 3 is Matthew Emmons from USA. Matthew is currently ranked 2nd in 50m Rifle 3 Positions in the world. He is a three time Olympic medalist having won the Gold in 2004 Athens in 50m rifle prone, silver in 2008 Beijing in 50m rifle prone and bronze in 2012 London in 50m rifle three positions.  He was also the 2002 ISSF World Shooting Champion in the prone position.

At number 2 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Yang Haoran from China. Aged 19, Yang is already ranked 1st in the world in men’s 10m Air rifle and is one of the most promising young prospect in shooting scene. He already has a commendable tally of 14 medals (nine gold and five silver) and has shattered eight world junior records in air rifle shooting at international events like Youth Olympics, World Championship and World Cup. In 2014 he did a triple having won gold at Youth Olympics, Asian Games and World Championships.

At number 1 in Top 10 Shooters 2016 is Zhu Qinan. This sport shooter is two time Olympic medalist having won the gold medal in 10m Air rifle in 2004 Athens and then silver at 2008 Beijing. During his Olympic triumph he was a junior and on his route to medal his qualification round score of 599 equaled that of the world junior record. He has won a bronze at the Asia Cup and the gold medal at ISSF World Cup many times. Currently he is ranked 1st in world 40m Rifle 3 Positions Men rankings.
