English footballer Aaron Cresswell plays as a left-back for the England national football team besides his appearances for the Premier League club West Ham United. He started his professional football career while playing for the Tranmere Rovers in 2008. He made 70 appearances for the club in the Football League followed by his move to the EFL Championship club Ipswich Town in 2011. Cresswell displayed some splendid performances for Ipswich and made 138 appearances for the club while netting the ball 6 times.

Cresswell joined the youth academy system of Tranmere Rovers after leaving the Liverpool academy. He made a brilliant progression and finally signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2008. He made his debut for the first-squad of Tranmere Rovers in a League One match against Milton Keynes Dons on 1st November 2008. During this time Tranmere Rovers’ then-manager Les Parry showed his concern of Cresswell leaving the club, and stated: “Aaron has got four or five Championship clubs trying to sign him; if I had to guess I would say Aaron might be leaving us this summer.” Cresswell was then offered a new deal at the end of season 2010-11 which he readily refused.
After his denial of the Tranmere Rovers contract, several big football clubs such as Doncaster Rovers and West Brom United showed interest in him in June 2011. But finally, Ipswich Town succeeded in signing him the same month. The club although failed to reach any final transfer fee and resolution for Cresswell. Ipswich then wanted to go to the transfer tribunal for the final settlement. The following month they mutually agreed on the clauses and Cresswell signed a three-year contract with the Ipswich Town. He then played extremely well for the club in the very first season and achieved the Supporters Player of The Year Award in the summer of 2012. His performances attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa.
Cresswell signed a five-year contract with Premier League side West Ham United on 3rd July 2014 for an estimated transfer fee of £3.75 million plus several add-ons. He then made his debut for the club in an EPL match against Tottenham Hotspur on 16th August 2014. Cresswell scored his first goal for West Ham in a league match against Newcastle United at the Boleyn Ground on 29th November 2014. He played all the 38 out of 38 Premier League matches and all 4 FA Cup matches for West Ham in season 2014–15. His performance of that season earned him the Player’s Player of the Year award. He also achieved the Hammer of the Year award in May 2015.
Cresswell then signed a contract extension with the club which will make him stay at the West Ham until the end of 2020 season. The contract also has a provision for extending the term for two more seasons after the expiry of the current deal. Cresswell suffered a horrific knee-ligament injury in a pre-season match against Karlsruher SC in July 2016. He spent almost four months out of the ground for his treatment. Cresswell finally made his comeback in a Premier League match against Crystal Palace on 15th October 2016.
Cresswell’s amazing defensive skills and his steady performances for West Ham attracted the attention of England national team manager Gareth Southgate. Cresswell earned his first call-up for the national squad on 7th November 2016. He was included in the national team after the withdrawal of Danny Drinkwater from the squad. Cresswell was first selected for a friendly against Spain and for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Scotland. He made his international debut against Spain as a substitute of Danny Rose at Wembley Stadium on 15th November 2016.
