Athletes taking drugs had not been anything new and many athletes have ruined their careers because of this habit. Many athletes had been banned in the past permanently or temporarily because of having a drug addiction.
Josh Hamilton who was MLB player was banned due to drug addiction. His career suffered eight years delay as he had a fight with alcohol and drugs. He started coping up in the year 2008 and now has gained back the lost reputation.
John Daly who had been a pro golfer used to have heavy amounts of alcohol. Despite the two major wins in his career, he had no victory in the six years because of the heavy alcohol use.
Michael Phelps has been an Olympic gold medalist for 8 times. Apart from plunging into water, he also plunged himself into drugs. In the year 2009, he lost the endorsement contract he had with Kellogg’s because of the drug abuse. His career also suffered badly because of the drug use.
He was an MLB player, debuted in the year 1983, and won the Rookie of the year award as well. And he had a flourishing career until he had the encounter with drugs. He used to have cocaine and he admitted that the first time he had cocaine was 1983. He was suspended around 3 times by MLB for drug use and he could not make to the hall of fame.
Baker was basket ball player and used to play for Milwaukee Bucks. He admitted that he had been drinking and because of this his game suffered a lot. He was never as good as he was before and never reached the heights that he once reached in the first 5 years of his career. His skills were being affected because of the drug use and team definitely suspended him because of this reason.
Dwight Gooden was an MLB player who also got banned because of drug addiction. He debuted when he was 19 years old with the team New York Mets. He also won the rookie of the year award and was very good as a player. Unfortunately, he could be as good as he was before because of the Drug abuse. His decline was caused because of the cocaine use. He was a potential for a hall of fame but could not make it because of the drug abuse.
There had been many other athletes who had destroyed their careers because of the drug addictions. These athletes could have shined in the world and could have got ample amount of fame, but the drug addiction took them to the downfall and this eventually did not turn out to be good for them. Drug abuse was and will never be good as it destroys the careers and also the reputation earned as an athlete.
