Cédric began his youth career by joining Sporting Clube de Portugal’s youth system in 1999 when he was just eight years old. Cédric debuted in the Primeira Liga with Sporting CP, in May 2011, and started in a 0–1 loss of his team to Vitória de Setúbal. For the 2011–12 season, Soares was loaned by Sporting to Académica de Coimbra, the fellow club of top division. It was here that he played regularly during the season, and helped the team earn the Taça de Portugal title in that season. He appeared for the entire 90 minutes of the match that ended in a 1–0 triumph over Sporting.

Eventually, Cédric came back to the club based in Lisbon as a first choice for Sporting in the following years, even as several managers came to the team. In the final match of the domestic cup in May 2015, in which his team faced S.C. Braga, Soares saw the red card in the 14th minute of the match, because he conceded a penalty shot and made a foul on Djavan. However, the win went to Sporting in the shootout. Cédric got associated with Portugal in the 1999-2000 season, as he became part of Portugal’s U-16 team, and eventually went on to transition to the U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 teams. He appeared in ten matches to represent the U21 team of the Portuguese side, as he debuted in September 2011 in a match that ended in a 2–0 victory against Moldova in the qualifiers of European Championship of 2013.
