English striker Daniel Sturridge currently plays for the English Premier League club West Bromwich Albion on loan from Liverpool besides his regular appearances for the English national team. He started his footballing career with Aston Villa youth academy and moved to Coventry City after spending four years with Villa. Sturridge then moved to Manchester City in 2003 and became their only player to score in the Premier League, FA Youth Cup and FA Cup in the same football season. He then moved to Chelsea followed by a brief stint with Bolton Wanderers on loan from the Blues.

Sturridge joined Liverpool in 2013 as an attacking partner of Luis Suarez, and the duo scored more than 100 Premier League goals during the 2013-14 season. He faced some serious injury issues after 2014 and made very few appearances for the club. Sturridge, besides his club career, also represented the English team at various age levels. He was a part of the England U-21 team before making his debut for the senior team in 2011. Sturridge was an integral part of the squad that represented England in 2012 Summer Olympics and 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Sturridge joined his local club Cadbury Athletic at the age of just 6 and moved to the Aston Villa youth academy when he was seven years old. After a brief period with Coventry City, he joined the youth academy of Manchester City at the age of 13. Sturridge then achieved the Nike Cup title, the biggest under-15 competition, with Manchester City in 2006 and was voted as the player of the season. He was also a part of the Man City youth squad that reached the FA Youth Cup final in 2006. After stunning performances for the youth squads, Sturridge signed his first professional deal with City the same season.
Sturridge began his training with the Manchester City first team from the starting of season 2006-07. He made his debut against Reading in February 2007 coming off from the bench as a substitute of Georgios Samaras. He then scored his first goal for the club in an FA Cup match against Sheffield United on 27th January 2008. Sturridge scored his first Premier League goal against Derby County on 31st January. Beside the first-team appearances, he continued to play for the Manchester City youth team and became the first player ever to score in the FA Cup, FA Youth Cup and English Premier League in the same season. He finished the 2008-09 season having 4 goals in 26 appearances with Manchester City. Sturridge was named Manchester City’s Young Player of the Year in 2009.
Sturridge signed a four-year contract with one of the EPL champions Chelsea on 3rd July 2009. As he was under the age of 24 as of 14th January 2010, the Professional Football Compensation Committee decided that Chelsea would pay £3.5 million initially. But with the clauses that the total fees could reach up to £8.3m after several add-ons. He made his EPL debut for Chelsea against Sunderland on 18th August 2009, as a substitute for Didier Drogba. Sturridge then made his first start for Chelsea against Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on 28th October 2009. He made his first start in the EPL against Birmingham City on the 2009 Boxing Day. Sturridge then scored his first EPL goal against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on 25th April 2010. He made his UEFA Champions League debut against Slovakian team MŠK Žilina on 15th September 2010.
Sturridge joined the Bolton Wanderers club on a season-long loan from Chelsea on 31st January 2011. He made his debut for the Wanderers against Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers on 3rd February and scored his first goal in the very same match. He then made his first start for the Bolton Wanderers against Tottenham Hotspur on 13th February 2011. Sturridge made a huge impact on the performance of the Bolton Wanderers and finished the season with 8 goals in 12 appearances for the club. But tragically, after maintaining a clean image for his whole career, Sturridge received his first ever red card against Manchester City in the very last match of the season.
Sturridge faced a 3-competitive-matches suspension at the start of 2011–12 season, due to his red card in the last match of the previous season. He was a part of the Chelsea squad that achieved the 2012 UEFA Champions League title but remained as an unused substitute. Sturridge then joined the Great Britain team in the 2012 Summer Olympics and due to this, he missed almost all the pre-season matches of Chelsea. As an exception to that, he played against his former club Manchester City in the 2012 FA Community Shield. Sturridge scored his last English Premier League goal for the Blues against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. He made his last competitive score against Manchester United in the League Cup.
Sturridge signed a long-term contract with Premier League club Liverpool on 2nd January 2013 with an estimated transfer fee of £12 million. He then made his debut and scored his first goal for the Reds in the FA Cup third round match against Mansfield Town on 6th January 2013. He made his Premier League debut for the club against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 13th January 2013. Sturridge made his first EPL start against Norwich City on 19th January at Anfield. He scored his first ever hat-trick against Fulham at Craven Cottage on 12th May 2013. For his amazing performance the following month, he received the English Premier League Player of the Month award for August 2013. Sturridge again received the award for the second time after scoring five goals and providing two assists in February 2014.
Sturridge earned his nomination in the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award and PFA Young Player of the Year award on 18th April 2014. He was then included in the PFA Team of the Year along with his Liverpool teammates Luis Suárez and Steven Gerrard on 27th April 2014. Sturridge then missed almost five months for several injury reasons. He made his comeback for the Reds against West Ham United as a substitute for Lazar Marković on 31st January 2015. He then again missed the first five matches in season 2015-16 for his injury. Sturridge made his subsequent comeback against Norwich City on 20th September 2015. Sturridge scored his first Europa League goal for the Reds against Manchester United at Anfield on 10th March 2016.
Sturridge joined West Bromwich Albion on loan from Liverpool on 29th January 2018 until the end of season 2017-18. After just two appearances for the club, he suffered a hamstring injury against his former club Chelsea on 12th February 2018.
Sturridge represented the England national squad at U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 levels. He also represented the U-21 side that participated in the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He was then earned his first call-up for the England senior team on 6th November 2011. Sturridge made his debut against Sweden as a substitute for Theo Walcott. Sturridge scored his first senior competitive goal in a FIFA World Cup qualification against San Marino on 22nd March 2013.
He was called up for the Great Britain Olympic football team on 2nd July 2012. Sturridge scored his first goal in the Olympics against the United Arab Emirates squad on 30th July 2012. He then earned his place in the England squad that participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in May 2014. Sturridge scored his first FIFA World Cup goal against Italy in Manaus on 14th June 2014.
Born to Grace Sturridge and Michael Sturridge in Hockley, Birmingham, Daniel is of Jamaican descent through his father’s side. He grew up as an avid Derby County fan. He is the nephew of ex-footballer Dean and Simon Sturridge; besides, his father also played football professionally before he was born. Sturridge grew up with his elder brother Leon Sturridge and his elder sister Cherelle Sturridge. According to the recent media reports, he is currently dating supermodel Jourdan Dunn.
