British footballer Harry Maguire currently plays as a defender for the English Premier League team Leicester City beside his regular participation for the England national football team. He started his career at the youth academy of Sheffield United and progressed through different age-groups. Finally, he made his debut for the club in 2011. Harry became a permanent member of the side till 2014 and played 134 matches for the club. He then transferred to Hull City in 2014 and remained in the squad till 2014. Besides, he also spent a season in Wigan Athletic in 2015 on loan from Hull.

Maguire, through his marvellous performance, attracted interests of several big football clubs. But finally, he joined one of the Premier League champions Leicester City in 2017. Maguire grew interest in football while studying at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Primary School during his early childhood. He then started taking training at the Brunsmeer Athletic Academy which led him to Barnsley. After a short stint there, he finally joined the Youth Academy system of Sheffield United. He went through a rigorous training program at the academy. Harry, while polishing his skills at the academy, has also promoted through several age-groups. He proved himself as one of the key defenders of the Sheffield United’s youth and reserve team.
During the last half of the EPL season 2010-11, Sheffield United struggled against relegation. Maguire earned his call-up for the senior side due to the lack of good defenders in the team that time. He then made his debut for the club as a substitute against Cardiff City in April 2011. Despite being the substitute, Harry successfully acquired the man of the match award for his excellent performance in the debut match. He then made 4 more appearances for the club that season but failed to stop the relegation of Sheffield United.
He became a permanent member of the Sheffield United squad in the following 2011-12 season at League One. Harry scored his first goal for the club against Oldham Athletic on 6th August 2011. He then signed a four-year contract extension with Sheffield on 19th October 2011 which could make him stay at Bramall Lane till 2015. He helped the club to again achieve the Premier League promotion and proved himself as one of the best defenders of League One. Harry, for his amazing performance that season, has earned both “Player of the Year” and “Young Player of the Year” award at Sheffield United. He also earned his place in the League One Team of The Year for 2011–12 by BBC’s Match of the Day magazine.
Harry scored his first brace for the club in the Football League Trophy match against Notts County at Meadow Lane on 17th October 2012. He then made his 100th start for Sheffield United in a match against Leyton Orient in February 2013 at the age of just 19. His excellent performance for the Blades earned interests from several big football clubs such as Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to the media report, the wolves made a £1.5 million bid for Harry that time.
Maguire signed a three-year contract with Hull City on 29th July 2014. He has earned a reported transfer fee of £2.5 million for that deal. Shortly after his signing, Harry joined the Wigan Athletic on 10th February 2015 on a month-long loan. He then scored his first goal for Hull in the EFL Cup match against Middlesbrough in April 2017. Maguire captained the squad for the first time in that same match. He played 54 matches for the Hull City squad while scoring 2 goals during his time at the club.
Maguire signed a five-year contract with Premier League club Leicester City on 15th June 2017. He has earned £12 million initial transfer fee from the foxes which could raise up to £17 million with several add-ons. Maguire made his debut for Leicester in a Premier League match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 11th August 2011. Shortly after, he scored his first goal for the foxes against Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium on 19th August 2017.
Maguire earned his first call-up for the England U-21 side for a friendly against Northern Ireland in November 2012. He then made his debut as a substitute against Northern Ireland Under-21 side at Bloomfield Road on 13th November 2012. Followed by his excellent performance for the U-21 side, he earned his place in the England squad. Maguire earned his first senior call-up under England’s new manager Gareth Southgate on 24th August 2017. He was first selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Malta and Slovakia but remained unused. Maguire then made his senior international debut in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Lithuania on 8th October 2017.
Born in South Yorkshire, Harry Maguire is of pure English descent. He grew up in Sheffield along with his brother Laurence Maguire and his sister Daisy Maguire. Surprisingly, Laurence is also a professional footballer currently playing for Chesterfield. Harry attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Primary School during his childhood days. He is currently dating his long-time girlfriend Fern Hawkins since 2011. The couple spent almost 7 years together as of now.
