How Many Cricket Players Have Been Died During Match
17 December 2013: promising young Pakistani cricketer, Zulfiqar Bhatti died after being hit in the chest by a rising ball that caused his death on the pitch.
Bhatti, 22, was batting at his usual one down position for his local club “Super Star cricket club” when the tragedy occurred.
The authorities, as a mark of respect for the popular cricketer, announced a three-day suspension of all sporting activities in Sukkur, which is the third largest city in the Sindh province.

According to the reports, there had been 5 other cricketers dead till date because of a ball hitting them. Although cricket is a gentleman’s game, it becomes dangerous when the hard ball hits the player. On Sunday a South African first class cricketer died because the ball hit his head. A Pakistani cricket player in the past named Abdul Aziz died because of the ball hitting his heart causing immediate death. Raman Lamba died while fielding because the ball hit him hard. The first ever death caused by hitting a ball occurred in the year 1870.

On Sunday, during a match, South African cricketer named Daren Randal died as the ball hit his head. On this sad occasion, ICC consoled the rest of the players and expressed deep sorrow. Daren Randal was playing the hard cricket board premier league that took place in the eastern cape city of South Africa. He was playing a match where he tried to place a pull shot on a bouncer and instead the ball hit his head and he died. And he was on 32 years old. He fell right away on the pitch when the ball hit his head. Then he was taken to the hospital immediately but unfortunately, he could not survive.
The match was being played between the old Selby Runians and Forheir university. Daren Randal had played 4 first class matches by that time and was a cricket coach in the Sterling primary school. On this unfortunate incident, chief executive of South Africa cricket said it is a sad day for South Africa. According to the cricket websites, it is not a first event where a cricket player has died because of a ball hitting his head.
Similar events had taken place in the past as well. In the past such events, one umpire and 4 cricketers have died. The victim of the hard ball incidents has been a Pakistani former cricketer Abdul Aziz, Indian Batsman Raman Lamba, English players George Smerz and Ayan Foley. An England native umpire named Alcwn Jenkins also died because of a ball hitting him during the match. In the year 1959, in the final match of Quaid-e-Azam trophy, Abdul Aziz died as a fast-paced ball hit him hard. He was only 18 years old when the incident took place and he was taken to the hospital immediately but he could not survive.
