The game of cricket has evolved over the years. There was a time when the only format of cricket was test cricket and players used to play in white kits only. Then came the One Day International Cricket and then the colored cricket kits were introduced. After that, the T 20 format came and become very popular. Today, all the three formats of cricket are there. And every format has its own charm. However, One Day International cricket has a special place. And one of the biggest ODI tournaments is ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Today we are going to talk about the ICC Champions Trophy Format 2017.

Typically, the ICC Champions Trophy tournament took place after every two years. However, this time the tournament is taking place after 4 years. Last time, it took place in 2013 and India won that tournament. This time it is taking place from 1 June to 18 June in England and Wales. The format of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is pretty interesting. There are eight teams participating in this mega event of cricket. These eight teams include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, and New Zealand.

These are the top eight teams according to the One Day International rankings of the ICC. These teams have been divided into two groups. The first group is called Group A and in this group, we have Australia, Bangladesh, England, and New Zealand. The second group is called Group B and in this group, we have India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and South Africa.

ICC Champions Trophy Format

The format of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is such that the teams will first play group matches against each other. As already mentioned above, the teams have been divided into two groups. Each group has 4 teams. Every team will play one match against every other team of the group. So one team will get to play 3 matches in the group stages. After the group matches are over, the points table will be used to determine the top two teams of each group.

The top two teams of every group will qualify for the Semi-Finals of the tournament. The two Semi-Finals will take place on 15 June 2017 and 18 June 2017. In the first Semi-Final, the winner of the Group A will face the runner up team of the Group B. And in the second Semi-Final, the winner of the Group B will face the runner up team of the Group A.

The final of the tournament will take place on the 18th of June 2017.
