Rivaldo, who led Barcelona to the victory of 1998 and 1999 Spanish La Liga championship and 1998 Copa del Rey, now gave his verdict on his Brazilian successor Neymar. He stated to Spanish press Marca that Neymar changed his club to chase individual honour. While talking about the transfer to PSG for €222m, Rivaldo stated “It was a difficult moment, it made the team pessimistic,” and added “Neymar went, principally, because they made him a very good offer.” He also expressed his thought while saying “Playing in Barcelona, he was in the shadow of [Lionel] Messi and although he was doing very well, Messi is Messi and he has many years left in him” and added “I think Neymar left here to try to see if he is the best in the world. If he wants to be it, he will have to knock Cristiano Ronaldo out of the Champions League in the knockout stages in February.”
