The club is also popularly nicknamed El Submarí Groguet or El Submarino Amarillo (Yellow Submarine) owing to its yellow home kit. It is also due to being a rather low-profile team if compared to Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, who they have contested for trophies over the last decade. The largest away victory was at Las Palmas by 5–1 (2000–01 in Primera) and 4–0 at Real Sociedad in the same league during the 2004–05 season.

The team is called El Submarino Amarillo (the Yellow Submarine) because of their yellow strip. The mascot (named Groguet, “Little Yellow”) is featured as an anthropomorphic submarine. He made his debut back on 26 October 2001 and was named on 13 December that year by a local 12-year-old, Javier Fuster Almela, after a province-wide competition open to under-15s.
